A Tom McCaig Memorial Show was held for the Southern California Color Pigeon Club annual meet at the 2012 Pageant of Pigeons in Riverside, California, November 17, 18 and 19. This was also a western District Meet of the United Swallow Club. 175 Birds were shown: including Saxons, Clean Legs and German Trumpeters. A great deal of excitement was experienced at the end of the show as the Pageant organizers decided to pick a Grand Champion of the show for the first time in the Pageant's long history. The result was that the Champion Swallow was picked as overall Grand Champion of the show. Bill Griebel won it with a beautifully conditioned near perfect blue black bar Silesian Swallow. Tally Mezzanatto won Reserve Grand Champion with a blue grizzle Frillback. Tom McCaig's spirit was there for sure and he would be proud of all of us for putting on this show.
This year, yours truely, was judge for most of the Color Pigeons including Archangels, German Trumpeters and Swallows. Some difficult choices were made and in the end it was a beautiful show indeed. Thanks to all that attended. A special thanks to Tom Moss for the use of his wonderful photographs.
